ZRL Round 2 of the 23/24 Season: Final Results

After a very quick turnaround after the first round, the teams were back racing in Round 2! Managing so many teams is never an easy task, especially when the leagues and timezones are always changing, but we're a well-oiled machine and know what to expect. Overall, it was another successful six weeks of racing with nine teams finishing on the podium. Whilst this is slightly down from the twelve in Round 1, we know that teams were moved to different leagues, and many teams not on the podium actually improved their overall position from R1. Let's also not forget, this is not all about the results – it's about racing your heart out with a group of strangers who end up becoming friends. That's the real reason we race!

Racing for a team like The Coalition, with ZRL teams across all categories and in many available timezones, comes with some (many) positives as well as some unique hurdles. The Fall of 2023 marked the return to work for many, and we saw huge spikes in riders contracting COVID, RSV, the flu, and assorted plagues, leaving many of our teams short of riders each week. The Coalition rose to the task with many riders riding double, cross-category riding, riding at the tail end of whatever assorted plague they had contracted, and riding for teams outside their normal timezones. This team spirit might not be reflected in the results, but brought riders together that otherwise wouldn’t have met and highlights a unique camaraderie for so large a team.

Beccah Niesen, Regional Officer for Women's Racing at The Coalition

Once again, a big thank you to all the team captains for their work to get everything ready in time and also to Jill who compiled the results every week for all the riders. We hope that everyone enjoys the holiday period and comes back refreshed, ready to finishing strong in the third and final round.

Lastly, thank you to C-Bear.com who are sponsoring the results for the final two rounds. If you don't know them, then they produce fantastic ceramic bearings at a fraction of the cost you might pay elsewhere. Check them out.
